OCI Power, a solar inverter specialist led by CEO Seong-yeop Kim, announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with SG Energy, a specialist in Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV), at the OCI Building in Sogong-dong, Seoul, on the 17th for cooperation in BIPV deployment and building energy efficiency projects.
Under the agreement, the two companies will share their technologies and capabilities across a broad range of projects aimed at implementing Zero Energy Buildings (ZEB), including renewable energy supply and advanced building energy efficiency solutions as well as BIPV.
For BIPV solar power plant construction projects, OCI Power will be responsible for Procurement and Construction, while SG Energy will oversee Engineering, PM/CM, and BIPV module manufacturing.
In the field of building energy efficiency, the two companies plan to jointly develop business models for various application areas, including public buildings, residential and commercial buildings, and data centers, as well as collaborate on sales and overall project execution.
Seong-yeop Kim, CEO of OCI Power, said: “Through this agreement, we expect the two companies to create synergies in BIPV and advanced building energy solutions by leveraging our respective expertise and know-how. OCI Power will continue to strengthen its energy solution capabilities based on our proprietary technologies in order to respond to rapidly changing energy environments in Korea and overseas.”
BIPV is a system that integrates building exterior materials with solar power generation functionality. By replacing conventional building exterior materials with solar power systems, BIPV can maximize energy generation even where available land is limited.
In Korea, BIPV is attracting attention as a promising business area amid policies such as mandatory ZEB implementation and pilot and deployment programs. Standardization of BIPV systems, certification frameworks, and performance evaluation systems are also being developed.
