OCI Power to Supply Solar Inverters for Floating Solar Power Plant in Jeollanam-do

Renewable energy company OCI is expanding its presence in Korea’s solar power market after signing a contract with Hanyang Corporation to supply solar inverters for the Haechang Bay Floating Solar Power Plant in Jeollanam-do.
OCI Power, a subsidiary of OCI, signed a contract with Hanyang Corporation on the 26th of last month to supply solar inverters for the 97.5MW Haechang Bay Floating Solar Power Plant project in Podu-myeon, Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do. The power plant covers an area of approximately 792,000 square meters. A solar inverter is an essential component of a photovoltaic power generation system that converts direct current electricity generated by solar modules into alternating current electricity. The inverters are scheduled to be supplied to the Haechang Bay Floating Solar Power Plant during the first half of 2022.

OCI Power became the first company in Korea to develop a DC 1500V inverter last year and is the only Korean company with a track record of supplying DC 1500V central inverters to projects including those in Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do. DC 1500V central inverters support plant configurations ranging from 2MW to 3MW, making them suitable for the design of large-scale solar power plants.

OCI Power plans to actively supply its products to medium- and large-scale power plants that will increasingly require DC 1500V systems. In particular, configuring a solar power plant of the same capacity with a DC 1500V system can reduce electrical construction costs by approximately 30% compared with a conventional DC 1000V system.
